The Year Which Nearly Broke Us
Happy New Year! Goodbye 2010! Can you remember the feeling in the room when the clock struck midnight this year? The collective sigh of relief from your friends and the desire to bring on the new, because anything has to be better than what we just went through? True, it wasn’t all bad. My brother-in-law just had his first child, a darling little Sidney. And my wife and I celebrated a successful one year together married (piece of cake). The iPad 3G even finally went on sale. But Wikileaks and magazine ad drops, earthquakes in Haiti and Conan’s last show, Toyota’s communications crisis and Snowmageddon in DC, this was a tough year by any measure. But people are tough, and Americans tougher. Put 2010 in the in the past, for every man should be born again on the first day of January. Start with a fresh page. Take up one hole more in the buckle if necessary, or let down one, according to circumstances; but on the first of January let every man gird himself once more, with his face to the front, and take no interest in the things that were and are past. ~Henry Ward Beecher
Here’s to a great year all around!
